Progress report

Currently we have filmed most of our music video and edited what we have filmed. Today we are filming the last few shots of the video and I am taking pictures for my digipak, which I shall start to edit next week.

Digipak inspiration

Here I have picked a large selection of rock digipak covers in order to pick out similar features i.e. the colours black, red and a greeny yellow, as well as the cartoonistic type image or logos. I have then looked at each and decided on a few features I would like to use in my own digipak in looking at band photos and the types of logos they use. Furthermore, I can see that the font is bold, stands out and quite curvey.

Digipak ideas so far

The front cover ideas:
Apple design:
This idea links to the inter textual reference of Adam and Eve within the music video, which I thought would be an interesting idea to link throughout the project, which is also why I have thought about naming the album "Deadly Sins" as this idea makes people think of rebellious actions and links to rock as rock is seen as quite a rebellious genre. However, I may get a hand holding this apple as it would look more interesting, especially if there was a tattooed arm holding the apple as the links to rebellion even more. If I did get a hand to hold the apple it would be in quite an aggressive manner in order to link to the genre even more and to intrigue fans. I think that this idea is good for linking to rock as this genre does not typically include the band on the front cover.
Woods design:
Here I have displayed the lead in a wooded area with a snake around his neck and the female temptress on the floor as if to drag him down with temptation. This idea links to the theme of temptation as well, which is mentioned above. However, if I were to use this idea I would change it to a sketch as the male lead is not usually featured on the front cover of an album in the rock genre.

2nd Cover image:
Here is where a band image is typically placed. I have only drawn a generic image for the cover, but if I were to use this idea I would really have to think about costumes and positioning in order to represent the genre correctly.

Focus Group

Here is the video of the focus group which we have re-filmed in order to upload it.

From conducting this focus group, we now know the type of character, to use for the female temptress (Megan Fox type image) who this audience thought should be played by Hope Way, as she looks the part more than Carlota. Furthermore, we learnt in order to make a good quality music video we should include lots of close ups of the band and that the lyrics should link to the visuals, so we will definitely include this in the music video. Finally, we learnt the type of costumes and actions that the audience would expect to see from the other films and videos they have referenced within the video.

Editing and re-shoot

From what we have filmed so far we have managed to edit most of the narrative part of the music video. However, the clips for the performance side of the video did not look right as they had a green filter and some were blurry when we uploaded them. Therefore, we shall be re-shooting the performance clips for our video on Sunday 15th November and we have decided to use different guitarists as the ones we used previously did not fit in with the genre of the music. Furthermore, We have changed the location of the shoot to the main hall as there is less natural light in there and we can use more artificial lighting which usually features heavily in a rock music video, and is what our target audience has said they expect to see within a rock video.
A clip of what we have edited so far will be released later on today.

Dolby

Some excellent work here earlier on audience- try and weave the information and feedback throughout your project to show progression and reflection.

Useful to have done a focus group but try and embed a video of it and do some analysis of what that process taught you. Don't forget to present your work in a variety of formats.

updates 2

Filming went well over the half term and we should start the editing process this week. We replaced the bass player with a man named James Mars for the video and have also completed the story board, which will be uploaded soon. Finally, we have started to plan our digipak's individually, so a drawn draft of mine should also be uploaded in the near future along with a few drafts of the music video.
