Earlier in the project we filmed a focus group, however there was some technical difficulties with uploading the video with the way it was filmed, so I shall script what the interviewees and interviewer said then try and upload the video later.
interviewees- Jack, Sam and Olivia
Interviewer- James
Camera- Abby
First of all we showed the interviewees the music video and lyrics.
Interviewer: What images do you imagine seeing in a music video for our song after listening to the music and reading the lyrics?
Sam: I imagine a really hot woman
Jack: yeah she could be like dancing around and acting quite seductive throughout the video
Olivia: That's true and I could see her having quite dark hair as it would suit the genre very well. Like a kind of Megan Fox looking woman
James: Ok thanks guys, so in your opinion what makes a music video bad?
Jack: when the lyrics have no relation to the music video
Olivia: yeah because then meanings can be misinterpreted. Also when the shots are quite shaky because that makes the video seem to be of a cheap quality
Sam: Also when the band isn't shown because i like to get to know the band in their music and get a certain atmosphere from the video especially with the rock genre!
We then explained our ideas of what to do in the music video to the interviewees. We told them how we were going to base it around the theme of temptation and use the story line of a boy and girl at a house party which builds up to the bedroom.
James: What do you guys think of this idea? are there any improvements you would make to it?
Sam: I think that idea is really good I look forward to seeing it
Olivia: I like the idea as it suits the genre well
Jack: The idea is good just make sure to advertise the band lots in it and get lots of close ups of them to create an exciting atmosphere for fans
We then showed them two images of people to play the female role to see who they thought would be better for the role
James: So do you think Hope or Carlota for the role?
Olivia: Hope
Jack: Hope
Sam: Carlota
James: Finally, what do you guys think about when you think of the idea of temptation? Like are there any films, books or other music videos you think of.
Jack: I think of Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne
Sam: Oh my gosh yes I really like the part in the video where she is getting a massage and the video is slow mo, as I thought that moment was especially tempting for the boy.
Olivia: yeah that's a good one. Otherwise, I think that you should use outfits like Mr Grey uses in 50 shades, as then we can see why the female is tempted by you not just how you are tempted by her. The girl should wear quite a short outfit as these are seen especially to be promiscuous.
James: Ok thanks for your time and thoughts guys we shall take all your ideas into account when making the music video.
From looking at these results, we have realised to use Hope as the main role for woman. We also realised what we can do to avoid our video looking bad and images we could include which would be aesthetically pleasing to the fans.

updates
The bass guitarist has dropped out, so we are currently looking for a new one and considering Sam Smith as our #1 option. Furthermore, for the party scene we have hired many extras and told them to wear smart clothing to make the scene appear more realistic. Finally we have moved the location of the performance half into the atrium as this location is available to us more and they have a stage, which will make it look more like a performance than the sports hall would, so we have sorted these details with the head of sixth form to ensure that everything is alright and we know the rules for filming on Wednesday.

Locations List
Locations
Sports
hall/Gym:
We think this location would be appropriate for the
performance scenes, as it is a big hall so we could display all the instruments
easily and be able to change the lighting and setting to look like a studio and
fit the conventions of rock. The difficulties of using this location is that it
is a public place, so it is not always free or empty to shoot in, meaning
restrictions of use. To overcome this we shall keep in contact with the PE
department to arrange times for when it can be free for us to film in.
Furthermore, it would be difficult to move some of the sports equipment i.e.
basketball nets, so we will have to be careful about how we frame the shots in
order to not get these aspects in the image. For this location we would have to
get permission from the school and ensure no sports equipment is damaged and we
clean up our instruments when we have finished filming, so we shall find out
who is in charge of running this sports hall and make an agreement with them.
House
Kitchen:
This
location would be appropriate to use for the house party scenes as part of the
narrative, as it would help to get the setting and atmosphere of a real party.
The difficulties of using this location is to clean up any clutter and move furniture
that is unnecessary to the scene and would be distracting in the frame, however
moving these could be dangerous if they are heavy. Therefore, we shall have to
use a lot of communication when moving heavy objects to make sure we lift
objects and place them at the same time so no one gets injured.
Bedroom-
The One (Video Analysis)
From this music video the main representation I see from it
is the sexualisation of women. This is a common representation found through
the genre. For mise en scene there were many things that contributed to many
different areas. For the men, they were all dressed up in nice suites,
completely covering their bodies. The suites were bright colours which showed
that they were important/big caricatures. All of the men were shown to have
long hair to match the rock star image they were trying to achieve. On the
other hand, the woman in the video were all shown to be wearing very
provocative clothes such as bikinis and other costumes. They were very dulled
up and the clothes did not leave much to the imagination. The point in the
video was to show that the girls were there to entertain the guys in a bikini
contest. This showed them as objects that the men would vote for them dependant
on how they looked and their actions. In order to impress the men, there were
three rounds in which the woman would have to perform different things. For example
in one section, a woman eat a banana provocatively during the talent round.
This show not only sexualisation but also that woman can control men as the
judges appear gob smacked. The location it is set in is fairly basic as it’s
only a room with a judging panel for the guys and the dressing room for the
girls. This shows that the girls have to dull up in the dressing room and work
for the guys who just have to sit there in the empty room with the stage. There
was on show made by a steady cam that focused on to a TV in which the action
was happening. This was a reference to modern TV programs, saying that what it
showing is the kind of content can that be found on a TV normally. Most of the
camera shots were

Representation in our video
Representation in our trailer
Conventional
representations:
In our music
video we shall use typical stereotypes of men, women and teenagers.
Male lead- made to objectify women
- Physique is strong
- Sexual attractiveness in the suit
- Party going as in early twenties
- Powerful white man- got money- materialistic
- promiscuous
Female Lead-
- pretty, skinny, model type character
- Relationships
- Party goer in early 20’s
- Materialistic- gold snake bangle
- Promiscuous- temptress
Band
members-
- strength and talent in playing their instruments
- Rebellious appearance
- Shows a style of fashion
Ways of
challenging the stereotypes:
Male: -
not in control over his actions
- In a sense powerless to the woman
Female: -
Manipulative over man’s actions kind of controlling
Representations:
Male:
Negative as seen as powerless to woman and obsessed with materials and
partying, could be seen as selfish
Female:
Negative as seen as temptress controlling man’s actions and temptation is seen
to be a sin, therefore it is a bad thing.
Band:
Negative as their style could be seen as a band influence to their fan members
How
appeals to audience?
These
stereotypes would appeal to the audience as although they’re negative
representations we are in an essence showing the audience features of what they
wish to look like, which would make them want to watch the music video. The
representation would also promote our artist as it shows of their personality
and links to the genre.
