Directors commentary

Directors Commentary:
Start of video black and white effect:
We chose this as a starting effect as we thought it looked nice to symbolize setting up the song, then when the drum kicks in is where there is a fade to colour in order to represent the music coming to life.
Blurry shot:
We then inserted a blurry shot where the singer walks in in order to make the writing of the band title and name of the song more visible.
“When all the lights go down” fade to black:
We chose to use a fade to emphasize this song and also to represent a change from one mood to another as this is where the main story of temptation comes in.
“You let the animal out” reverse zoom x3:
We used the reverse zoom here to emphasize the line and give the impression of something coming out of the singer. We used light rays effect to re-emphasize this idea and repeated the effect three times from different angles to match the beat of the music.
Slow mo on nail sting shot:
We used this effect in order to make the shot seem more dramatic in the way that the nails dropped.
“With every beat we’re getting closer”:
For this line we zoomed in the used a fade effect into the next scene in order to match the lyric meaning and make the performance seem more interesting.
“You got something worth exploring”:
I thought because this line is slow and eerie compared to the rest of the music we should use a long take of a close up on the singer to make it more intense. At first we used black and white but this did not seem to work with the video, therefore we changed it to a bad movie filter as it looked better and suited the eerie feeling the audience gains from the music.
Slow mo fall on bed:
The drop on the bed matched the drop in the beat of the music and it kind of makes the viewer feel relieved as we can see the lead male getting what he wants at least. We chose to do it in slow mo in order to match the rhythm of the music.
Black and white at end:
We chose to use the black and white effect at the end to represent the song finishing and the music dying. I think it is effective as it links the end of the song to the beginning to create a sense of repeatability.
Colour corrector throughout:

We used a colour corrector on the images in order to make them a bit darker to suit the rock genre in a low key lighting. We also used this filter in order to create continuity of lighting throughout the piece.
